How do I use the map layers?
There are lots of different map layers you can display.
- Grid
- Day/Night
- Magnetic Equator
- ITU Zones
- CQ Zones
- DXCC Entities
- Prefixes
- Sun
Just click on the checkbox next to the layer name on the left, and the layer will display on the map.
These layers are “sticky”, which means your selection will be remembered each time you come back to the main page or reload the site.
Uncheck the checkbox and the layer will be removed from the map.
Why are the mode layers not sticky?
Good question!
These layers (Phone/CW, MSK144, WSPR, Digital - Other) are legacy items. They were originally the only way to filter what was displayed on the map, before the Spot Filter panel was implemented.
The spot filters are now linked to the map, so whatever you select under the spot filters panel will be displayed on the spot list and the map, including the legend under the map.
We will probably remove these layers very soon because it can be a little confusing having 2 places to select filters.
Are there going to be more map layers?
Yes, we are currently developing and testing MUF, Fof2, Aurora and Es Probability Index layers. Stay tuned!
